The first thing I tend to do when I arrive in a new place is to venture out and explore, usually by foot so I can really take my time meandering and taking it all in. This is exactly what I did when I woke up on my first day in Bali. I went directly to the front desk of my B&B ordered some breakfast and asked the owner about the area and any good walking paths. She in turn directed me away from the hustle and bustle of town to a lovely walking path through the rice paddies.
At first I walked right past the turn as it looked just like a personal drive way, which took me up the road a bit to the little art museum of Antonio Blanco. Since Bali is actually renowned for its art and this Blanco fellow is one of the better known expat artists on the island I thought I would check it out. It was $5 for entry which included a free drink at the end of your self-guided tour through the home of Antonio Blanco - a rather large estate considering the area. The home was quite beautiful and had a large fountain and bird sanctuary out front. You enter through a giant installation in the portico which I found out was like a signature, and was in fact the biggest in Bali. As far as the art, all I can say is, this guy loved boobs! Just about every painting included one or more half naked women. I can appreciate the beauty of the female form but it was a bit overwhelming and not really my style of art, so I moved through the exhibit pretty quickly. The sweet tea offered on the terrace overlooking the garden though was a lovely end to the tour.
