First of all I drove from my brothers house in New Jersey down to Virginia. It was supposed to be a 6 hour trip, but when we ran into traffic shortly after entering Virginia our 6 hour road trip nearly doubled! It took us 4 hours to travel 40 miles from Alexandria to Fredericksburg. When we finally pulled into the resort, 12 hours after leaving NYC, I was beat and ready for a drink to relieve the stress of the day. We picked up some Sam Adams Octoberfest beer and a pizza and settled in for the night.
The next day the 6 of us got up bright and early to spend the day at Busch Gardens. The weather was gorgeous! a perfect 83 degree, sunny day. The park was decorated for Hallow-Scream which was a creepy treat. I also usually have an aversion to amusement parks because of the crowds and long lines, but it was not at all bad. We got to ride all of the major rides and roller coasters, only 2 had long lines and even they moved pretty quickly. The best roller coaster of the day was a new coaster called Verbolten. Most of the coaster is inside, where you cannot see anything but flashes of black light paint. Then the ride pauses and drops you vertically, like one of those parachute rides onto another track, before firing you out into the light. So fun! Once 6:00pm rolled around they began filling the walkways with mist and creatures jumped out at unsuspecting victims. We unfortunately left shortly after, as we had a die hard FSU fan with us, and we agreed to hit the bar for the game. It was a good night of beer, wings and football, but FSU did lose. My team won though, go WVU!!
The next day we were planning on going to historic Williamsburg, but the weather turned cold and rainy. I was really disappointed, but walking around in that kind of weather just didn’t seem appealing. Instead we visited the Yankee Candle store which was huge, it took up an entire strip mall. There was surprisingly a lot to see and do in the candle shop. I would recommend checking it out if you’re ever in the area. Then we visited the Premium Outlets for a little shopping to lift our spirits.
Eventually we just decided to go back and have ourselves a suite party! We spent the rest of the evening, drinking, listing to music, drinking, watching a movie, drinking, and even had ourselves a dance party. I think we made the very best of the crappy weather situation :). The next morning we woke up early to pack and get ready to hit the long road back home. No traffic this time! It took us 6 hours back to Jersey, and another couple back to the city. It was nice to finally be home.
So the weekend was really nice, despite not actually getting to tour the historic sites…just another reason to return one day :)
