I'm really just doing my best to take everything in and learn as much as possible. I find I'm unlocking my passion for the ocean and diving one day at a time. Between training I get to do as many fun dives as I want for free, which has been a fantastic opportunity that I take advantage of as often as I can. I can see the improvement in my diving and especially my navigation skills with every dive. Soon I will be ready to begin leading clients on fun dives and assisting on all levels of courses. I am really looking forward to this part of the training.
Its been about two weeks since I arrived in Koh Tao and my Dive Master training is well underway. The head DM director, Lee, is really fantastic, super knowledgeable, and has made the course really fun so far with his wild stories and anecdotes. Pete is our other instructor and he has been great as well. I like getting up early and just sitting and having coffee with these two, listening to their stories. The course work has included training in navigation, buoyancy, site mapping, deep diving theory, leading and instructing. We also get to sit in on instructor level lectures on diving theory and risk management, and we get involved in beach and reef clean-up activities. I've completed a 400 meter free style swim and another 800 meter swim with snorkel and fins. I have also already completed my written tests with high scores on both.
