Cefalù is a small beach side town in Northern Sicily, only a 45 minute train ride from Palermo. I went there twice, during my stay in Sicily, once on my own and again, the very next day, with some people from the hostel. It is really just a quaint, lovely little place to relax. The winding, cobblestone streets are pleasant to walk, even though they are lined with tourist shops. The cathedral is the big cultural draw for the town, but I didn't think much of it in comparison to others I had seen all around Italy. Actually, when I went someone was having their wedding, which was really beautiful, but I wonder if it was at all distracting to have tourists dropping in on your ceremony to take pictures of the church. The beach was the best part. It is similar to Mondello, with the crystal clear, blue water and white sand, but it is bigger and a little less crowded. The water was the perfect temperature for such an incredibly hot day. In fact, I don't think I've mentioned this before, but Sicily, and really all of Italy is ungodly hot in July and August, all day, every day. May not be the best time of year to visit after all. But, back to the beach, you could just wade in the water all day long...and we did :)
